Purple Restore Hybrid: can you keep your bed frame?
Keeping a familiar bed starts with identifying its parts. Check what will support the new mattress and what supports that component.
Identify what you want to keep
Imagine a shopper who likes an upholstered headboard and matching side rails but wants a new mattress. “Keep the bed” is an incomplete instruction. It might mean keeping the visible furniture, the item directly beneath the mattress, or the entire assembly.
Make a simple sketch of the current setup and label its pieces. Record any model information you can find. If you cannot identify a covered support unit, photograph its label and accessible underside for the seller instead of guessing what is inside.
Mark each piece as staying, being removed or being added. Use the sketch when explaining what you hope to keep.
Check the whole support arrangement
Purple's current Restore Hybrid page lists solid surfaces, qualifying slatted frames and qualifying adjustable bases as options. It says Purple mattresses should not use a box spring. These are manufacturer requirements checked October 24, 2026; this guide is not a hands-on test. (Restore specifications)
Its support guidance also requires sturdy support for the mattress, users and any foundation, including center support and size-specific leg counts. Slat spacing alone does not establish that the whole frame meets the requirements. (Purple support requirements)
The Restore page specifies slat gaps under 3.5 inches; the support page says no more than 3.5 inches. If your gaps are exactly at that boundary, ask Purple to resolve the wording for your setup. (Restore specifications; Purple support requirements)
Does the frame need a separate foundation?
Purple says its Flat Foundation fits most panel frames and is compatible with all Purple mattresses. It supplies a mattress-support surface where adequate slats are missing and must sit on a bed frame, off the floor. (Flat Foundation details)
A platform may already provide adequate support; the foundation is not automatically necessary. Have Purple confirm your complete arrangement. (Flat Foundation details)
Check both parts of the arrangement: the mattress on its support, and that support within the retained frame. Nominal sizes alone do not establish compatibility. (Flat Foundation details)
Make the reuse question easy to answer
Prepare one set of information about the actual bed: the frame's identifying label, the intended mattress size, a sketch of the support layout and measurements of the spaces between slats where accessible. Include a clear photo showing the center of the structure, not only the headboard.
Ask the seller or Purple to describe the completed assembly using your sketch, identifying every part they are relying on.
A useful answer might be, “These parts stay, this part is removed, and this specified support is added.” The actual answer may also be that no added component is needed, or that the existing frame cannot be confirmed suitable. That is the decision to settle before ordering, separately from whether you enjoy the mattress's feel.
